Private Home Hampstead Village
The brief given to us for this project was to ‘radically transform’ the approach to this individual house. Set on the first floor, the entrance to the property was hidden behind conifers and shrubs, a steep staircase to one side, a small driveway leading to the garage along the front.
Edward needed to create extra space for off street parking, reducing the depth of the front garden, whilst installing an exiting new route to the entrance. Once the site was cleared, new retaining walls were installed in handmade bricks to match the house. A staircase was built rising through the new landscape with a Cedar bridge over a naturalistic stream, the path paved in diamond sawn York stone reclaimed from the London Stock Exchange.
The planting was carefully designed to provide maturity, privacy and impact. A weeping Cedar hangs gracefully over the top pond, huge Acers reflect their foliage in the stream and cloud topiary of Black Pine, Yew and Box give solid formality and accent the architecture of the house.
At night an array of lighting in the ponds catches Koi Carp, the tapestry of foliage is lit with spots and floods to impress the viewer for parties and the lucky owners every evening.
